Please help us Beetle owners! We are being robbed blind. I will never again by a VW and regret ever selling my Toyota. I think a class action lawsuit against Volkswagen is necessary, especially among Beetle owners. Since it was upon assembly, I think VW should cover the costs of a new Monsoon stereo. A new one costs over $900 and used, $450. They found an internal short that has been there since the car was assembled. I called another car stereo specialist, and because of everything they would have to do just to install it including all new speakers, I was looking at $300 to have it installed. My husband bought me a new Alpine car stereo for my birthday, Best Buy wouldn't install it when they found out it was a VW Beetle with the Monsoon system. Now the car stereo display does not work, and the CD player does not work. This was after it went into "safety mode" and VW had to reset it. Oh, and the CD player just stopped working. There are little plastic pieces just breaking off, coatings are peeling, doors rattle. Two days later, the passenger side headlamp just pops out and is hanging there. Thank God for zip ties and a husband who can get it to stay in. I need an entire head lamp! What is the cost? It's about $450. A tiny piece of plastic that plugs into the headlamp is broken. Then my driver's side headlight just stops working. I have replaced the headlight bulbs twice and brake light bulbs twice, turn signal bulbs once. What else? Oh! In 2007, both headlights just go out at the same time. Next day, the car alarm just randomly keeps going off, armed or not. One week later, the light on dashboard that says my trunk isn't completely closed comes on and off. Here it is, January 2010, four months later, I'm putting gas in it, it spits it out.Īfter filling it up, it won't start. I went ahead, with the generous help of my parents, and had about $2400 worth of work done to it, new fuel filter, rear brakes, alignment, water pump, I could go on. How much do you want to bet VW never checked the water pump? Cost of water pump? About $800 bucks. It's the water pump which he found has had a small leak in it for quite sometime. I get it towed to a VW specialist in Tucson. light is still on and beeping the engine light comes on, it's barely running. I stopped taking it to my dealership because they are horrible and my warranty is now expired because of the mileage.Īnyway, in August 2009, the temp. There is no coolant leak although the coolant was slightly low, so we topped it off." This problem continued for the next 3 years. They looked at it and I was told "I don't know why it's going off. I took it to my local Chapman Volkswagen, Tucson, AZ. In October of 2006, almost one year after purchasing it, the temperature light comes on and is beeping. I went to the VW dealership there and had some sensor replaced. I was on vacation in Napa, CA and the engine light came on. That seems to be a big problem with Beetles. Window regulator was replaced a few months after I bought it. That's also when the stereo display wouldn't work, cold temps. There was a recall on a part that had something to do with the engine shutting down if the weather got below 40 degrees. The under plate under the car that protects the hoses just fell off and was dragged while I drove. I didn't have it checked out because I was happy to have a brand new car and thought that it wasn't a big deal. The display would go goofy or just wouldn't display anything, CDs were skipping, and getting spit out.
